Burgoynes was established by William Henry Burgoyne in 1909 as a means to keep his six sons occupied and in work, W.H. Burgoyne would nowadays be called an entrepreneur as he began the business which has gone on to provide marquees all over England and Wales, established a transport company, bought water to the village of Lyonshall, created warehouse space and serviced many a vehicle in it’s workshop.
W.H. Burgoyne’s eldest son Robert, great Grandfather to Jim and Matt Burgoyne, formed the marquee hire company having slept under canvas in the First World War.
The Marquee business grew steadily and in 1925 we supplied the canvas for the Welsh Boy Scouts Jamboree at Glanusk Park resulting in a thank you note from the late King George V for our services.
Roberts son Reg along with Peter Burgoyne proceeded to take the marquee business forward and through winning contracts such as the Open Golf Championships and the Formula 1 at Silverstone Burgoynes reputation for supplying marquees all over England and Wales started to take shape.
Jim and Matts father, David, was a hugely influencing factor in the successful running of the marquee business and he instilled the passion and motivation for the latest generation of Burgoynes to come through and take the business forward.
