The History of Burgoynes Marquees
Burgoynes was established by William Henry Burgoyne in 1909 as a means to keep his six sons occupied and in work. Nowadays W.H. Burgoyne would be called an entrepreneur, as he began the business which has gone on to provide marquees all over England and Wales. He also established a transport company, bought water to the village of Lyonshall, created warehouse space and serviced many a vehicle in its workshop.
William Henry Burgoyne’s eldest son Robert, great Grandfather to current directors Jim and Matt Burgoyne, grew the marquee hire company after having slept under canvas in the First World War.
The Marquee business grew steadily and in 1925 we supplied the canvas for the Welsh Boy Scouts Jamboree at Glanusk Park. We received a thank you note from King George V for our services.
Robert’s son Reg along with Peter Burgoyne proceeded to take the marquee business forward. Their reputation for supplying marquees all over England and Wales grew as a result of winning contracts such as the Open Golf Championships and the Formula 1 at Silverstone.
Jim and Matts father, David, was a hugely influencing factor in the successful running of the marquee business. He instilled the passion and motivation for the latest generation of Burgoynes to come through and take the business forward.

Burgoynes Marquees provides a full marquee hire service with health & safety a key part of the process. Our staff train to achieve StructureSafe licenses in safely erecting and dismantling marquees on site. All hire and workshop equipment is subject to regular checks and meet current industry guidelines. We care about the safety of our marquees, structures, equipment, staff and clients.
We have full public liability insurance. Site surveys are carried out to ensure that we can safely install marquees at your venue prior to our teams arriving on site. Risk assessments and method statements are available to give you peace of mind.
