Burgoynes History

Burgoynes (Lyonshall) Ltd, formerly known as W.H. Burgoyne & Sons, was founded by William Henry Burgoyne in the early part of the last century - the earliest receipt on record is from 1908.

William was similar to a modern day entrepreneur. He had a large family by modern standards with six sons and a daughter but with their help he expanded his business into Farming and also introduced the now familiar "Green Machines" into the Transport Delivery Company - a livery that is still carried to this day.

Burgoynes TruckHis eldest son Robert, grandfather to David Burgoyne (Managing Director of our Transport Company), formed the marquee hire company having slept under canvas in the first world war.

The Marquee business grew steadily and in 1925 we supplied the canvas for the Welsh Boy Scouts Jamboree at Glanusk Park resulting in a thank you note from the late King George V for our services.

The company has continued to expand up to the present day and we are now firmly established as one of the UK's leading Marquee Hire companies.

We have received a number of prestigious contracts over the years including The Open Championship at Birkdale, European Tour Events at Sandwich and Motor Racing at Brands Hatch and Silverstone. We also provided a spectacular Marquee complex for the tercentenary of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers attended by Her Majesty.

We continue to cater for hundreds of private events each year, always maintaining our founder's philosophy of delivering what we promise.

The website gives you a good overview of our range of modern day services. Please take the time to look through what we have to offer you and do not hesitate to contact us if you require more information.
